Why Europe is acting on textiles, water and food

European bodies have measured textile recycling, water quality and food waste. What they found explains the rules that followed, and the public money behind new methods.

Europe’s answer: producer responsibility for textiles under Directive (EU) 2025/1892, and a Digital Product Passport under the ESPR, Regulation (EU) 2024/1781. Our part: which data the coming passport act is likely to require, and the producer responsibility rules, explained for the companies they reach.

European Environment Agency, 2024

Europe’s answer: Directive (EU) 2024/3019 on urban wastewater, and stricter rules for industrial emissions. Our part: which water rules reach a dye house or a plant, from which date, and through which permit.

Food and nutrition57.9m tonnes

of food wasted in the EU in 2024.

Eurostat, 2026

Europe’s answer: Directive (EU) 2025/1892 sets national targets to cut food waste by 2030 from the 2021 to 2023 level: 10% in processing and manufacturing, 30% per person in retail, food service and homes. Our part: the food waste targets and the deforestation rules read for processors and importers, and the emissions data a buyer asks a supplier for.

Rules set the target. New methods reach it.

A rule fixes the date. The method that meets it may still be in development. At readiness levels 4 to 6, a method works in a lab or test setting but has not yet run in production.
