Green Claims Directive - proposal, proposed 2023, NOT adopted

A Commission proposal from 2023 that was never adopted, so it binds no company and no Member State. In June 2025 the Commission announced it intended to withdraw it. The rules on environmental claims that companies must follow today come from the Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive, applying since 27 September 2026, and the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive.
Whether the proposal has been formally withdrawn is not yet settled.
