Regulation (EU) No 528/2012
Biocidal Products Regulation, including the Art. 58 treated article rules
In short
Every disinfectant, preservative or sanitiser a business uses, from chlorine for drinking water to cleaning products in a food plant, is a biocidal product that must be authorised, with its active substance bought from a supplier on the Article 95 list. Treated articles such as antibacterial socks or anti-odour sportswear may contain only approved or still-under-review actives, must be labelled when a biocidal claim is made, and the importer carries these duties. The Regulation binds companies directly.
The active-substance review programme runs to 31 December 2030, so which actives are approved should be rechecked rather than assumed.
