Bisphenol A and other bisphenols restricted in food contact materials

This Commission Regulation restricts bisphenol A and other bisphenols in materials that touch food, and binds companies directly, including small food packers using BPA-based epoxy can linings or coated closures. Non-compliant single-use articles could be first placed on the market only until 20 July 2026, or until 20 January 2028 for packaging of fruit, vegetables and fishery products and for coatings on the exterior only.

Filling and sealing of non-compliant single-use packaging must stop by 20 July 2027, or 20 January 2029 for the extended categories; packed food may be sold until stocks run out.
