In short

A regulation binding producers, importers and distributors that place batteries on the EU market, including batteries built into appliances sold under their own name. A producer must register in every Member State it sells into before supplying the first unit there, and pay for collection and recycling in that country. From 18 February 2027 all batteries need a QR code, and batteries for electric vehicles, light means of transport and industrial use over 2 kWh need a battery passport.

Supply-chain due diligence duties for batteries were postponed and now apply from 18 August 2027.
