Directive (EU) 2020/2184
Drinking Water Directive (recast)
In short
The Drinking Water Directive has two parts. Its water-quality rules bind Member States, which pass the duty to water suppliers in national law, small municipal and regional utilities included; the limits, including those for PFAS, apply from 12 January 2026. Its rules on materials in contact with drinking water bind manufacturers directly through Commission acts, so a small maker of pipes, fittings or valves needs product conformity from 31 December 2026.
Products holding a valid national conformity attestation on 31 December 2026 have a transition period until 31 December 2032.
