Regulation (EU) 2019/1021
Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Regulation
In short
The POPs Regulation applies directly to anyone who manufactures, places on the market or uses the listed substances, or articles containing them, and it reaches small textile businesses. Its limits are the reason PFOA and PFOS residues in durable water-repellent finishes and imported garments are already unlawful today. For a small brand this matters more now than the universal PFAS restriction, which is still years from applying.
An act adding long-chain PFCAs was adopted on 7 September 2026 but is not yet published, so its planned date of 16 December 2026 is not settled.
Where it sits
PFAS, Chemicals - PFAS. Fields: Cross-sector, Textiles.
